Meet Your Music Teacher
Alex Barbieri
I am the founder and current sole teacher of Hove Music Lessons.
My motive is to give students the skills they need to be tomorrow’s musicians.
I believe that everyone can play music, and my goal is always to help them find their love for the arts.
Hi, My name is Alex!
I am a musician, composer, and sound artist with over 15 years of teaching experience with all age groups and many different class styles. I have worked with children my whole life, starting as a student teacher for one of my own mentors, working my way up as a music instructor for young musicians programs, teaching in schools, and as a nursery/preschool assistant. The core of my teaching is that learning can be accessible, and practice can be fun! I strive to build the foundation blocks of wholesome learning and musical enjoyment also that students can learn in a healthy environment.
My hope is that you can enjoy learning music as much as I enjoy playing and singing. My specialty is teaching piano to beginner students and I excel at coaching young students with focus and motivation. I have also worked with exam coaching and high level piano training for university auditions as well as tutoring. One of my great personal interests is composition, and I like to have all of my students experiment with creating their own sounds. Much of my teaching includes mirroring or repeating musical phrases as well as having students watch what is happening with their hands to learn movement.
I hold a BFA in Music (Performance) from the University of Lethbridge and an MA in Music and Sonic Media from the University of Sussex. Over my career I have been very fortunate to collaborate with singers, pianists, orchestras, and recording artists. I am looking forward to meeting you!
